No Escape: Prison Rape in America tells the tragic story of Rodney Hulin, a young prison rape victim who committed suicide in Texas prison. The film puts a human face on the problem of prison rape in America. Originally made to accompany the Human Rights Watch Report of the same name, the film has gone on to have a life of its own: it is used as a training tool in numerous prison facilities across the US, Rodney’s mother testified in the US Congress, and together the film with the HRW study helped galvanize a bipartisan coalition to pass the historic Prison Rape Elimination Act of 2003, which was signed into law by President Bush.
